In the day of video, the internet, and satellite radio, sometimes the old-fashioned technology is best. Radio Goldfield is a Nevada original a true old-fashioned radio station. The popular station had its beginnings in 2005. It operated as a “pirate” radio station, unlicensed for five years.

Once the coffee can is switched, we are on air.

Friday was my interview with Radio Goldfield. It was fun to talk to Carl but a little intimidating as it was my first time on the radio. The show was one hour and interspersed with music, so we didn’t have much time to talk. I will see if I can get a copy of the interview.

I will have lots more of the trip to come; I visited museums, including the Ordanance, Mineral County and the Central Nevada Museum. All were amazing and had a wealth of information. I spent a lot of time wandering Tonopah and Goldfield and ran out to McKinney Tanks.

My room at the Mizpah is said to be haunted so I decided to write about the Lady in Red. Not about the hauntings but about her. I spent Sunday researching and writing in my room. Instead of watching the Superbowl, I spent the afternoon mapping out and photographing the Red Light District.

“Millie” is the host when there between live shows. She sits behind the equipment, headphones on, and greets visitors to Goldfield.

This morning I have a meeting with Radio Goldfield to discuss ideas and thoughts for a weekly radio spot on history and my travels in Nevada. After, I will be heading home.

    Tami,

Can your radio program be received in Reno? Love to listen, if possible.

Radio Goldfield only heard as far north as Hawthorne, but they steam their shows. I hope to have the show times soon. They will start running them after I have completed three episodes. I’m working on number 2 this week.
