You won’t believe what Honey Badger Needs

October 19, 2024 Leave a Comment

You guys won’t believe this! Or if you followed Honey Badger’s saga, you might.

She needs a new engine! No, this isn’t an old article popping up. Yes, she needs a replacement for the replacement engine she got last year, which only has 16,000 miles. 🤯

This summer, I had issues with power going up hills on Highway 50 and I-80. I thought it was because of the warm weather. I noticed several leaks that looked like oil but were in different locations. Last month, I had some irregular oil readings. Hubby double-checked and said it didn’t make sense. On my way to the shop, I had so little power I almost didn’t make it from Carson over the hill into Washoe Valley.

I was worried it was the transmission. The shop looked into the issues and suggested compression testing, warning me if there wasn’t an issue, I would be responsible for the cost. Hubby wanted to ensure everything was good, so I was safe and didn’t have a problem in the middle of nowhere.

New engine 2023

I checked in with the shop because I’m supposed to lead a trip for Battle Born Off-Roaders this weekend. I thought they had the wrong Jeep when they told me she needed a new engine. They already talked to the rep but must go through the warranty department.

As you know, I’m not mechanical, so forgive my explanation. Several cylinders failed the compression test, causing a “blow by,” leading to loss of power and oil leaking through seals and into my air intake filter. I also have a leaking front crank seal; I don’t know if this is related.

It is a Jasper Gen 4 engine, which is a great company and upgraded from OEM. I don’t know how I got a lemon. Thankfully, I don’t have any big off-road trips planned until winter. Once they approve a replacement, it will be weeks before repair.
