It was so fun to visit Star City with Stan Paher, 19 years after we met at this exact spot. I made sure to have Stan's book, Nevada Ghost Towns & Mining Camps, with me (unlike last time), even through he already signed it. Sylvania was one of the first ghost towns I visited in Nevada. It was a great place to start my Nevada travels; multiple buildings remain, making it a fun place to explore. The settlement had a long life span, covering over one hundred years, leaving ruins from rock foundations to wood cabins. Was Sylvania in Nevada, California or both states? Pigeon Spring, Nevada

Pigeon Spring Mill is visible from Highway 266, east of Palmetto. A few travelers stop and visit the mill, but many don't realize the ghost town of Pigeon Spring is several miles past the ranch down a beautiful valley. Travel Update: Full Post to Follow Saturday was an amazing 15 hour day lead by Stan Paher and trail guide, author Jerry Aaron. 11 modified Rubicons make for a fun trip! This was Stan's scouting trip for a class he teaches at the college. Over the Hill

I had to make a trip "over the hill" as we say in Northern Nevada. I can't imagine what emigrants would think of crossing the Sierras, a medical appointment, lunch of Vietnamese food, picking up take out for dinner and making it home in 7 hours. I stopped at Strawberry Valley and Sugar Loaf Houses, both stations on the Pony Express route. Apparently two quick stops is the magic number for my son, ... VIEW POST
