Nevada Ghost Towns & Beyond

Gold was discovered 11 miles southeast of Dayton at the north end of the Pine Nut Mountains. The mining region was named Palmyra, after the ancient Syrian city. Slater's Mine is a lesser-known 1892 mine in the Pine Nut Mountains. Water was an ongoing issue for the mine's owners. Conflict was inevitable with a large number of mining claims in the valley.
