Sometimes trips don’t work out as planned. Our target Sunday was Bullionville, a mostly unknown ghost town in Douglas County along with a handful of surrounding mines.

We knew roads in the area could be difficult under the best circumstances. And the recent Numbers Fire followed by erosion could have caused additional damage.

Our group was a great resource with maps and GPS, local experience and off road knowledge. We tired to access Bullionville from 4 different approaches. Each time we were met with washouts, roads that could only be accessed by dirt bikes or maybe ATV or areas we didn’t want to risk causing additional damage.

The drive was in sharp contrast to the trip Friday. Instead of beautiful fall color, the trip was monochromatic shades of black. It was like driving on the moon.

New foliage was beginning to emerge from the ash. Willows were growing in the creek banks and grasses and wildflowers were emerging.

It was still a great day out with friends and we had fun wheeling. Thank you Aaron for saving the day and taking us to Preacher Mine. We also found an old structure with rebar in the windows which is strange.

Thank you everyone for a fun day!
