Wiley’s Station was a stage stop on the Carson Aurora stage line. It was active in the 1860’s through the 1870’s.
Wiley’s Station is located in beautiful Dalzall Canyon. The valley is narrow and nestled between the Pine Grove Hills and the Sweetwater Mountains. The closest town would have been Sweetwater a few miles to the south. Pine Grove, a regional supply and service town, was on the ease side of the Pine Grove Hills. Roads connect the two areas but travel during winter would have been difficult.
Wiley’s Station is on private property adjacent to ranch land. The owners have done a beautiful job restoring the building while maintaining it’s character.
Sweetwater is one of our favorite Sunday drives. It’s always beautiful, especially in the fall. There is plenty of hiking up a variety of canyons. The Heyday Inn steak and Basque restaurant in Wellington is a fun place to have lunch with locals.
One lucky day we were able to watch a helicopter practice touchdowns and takeoffs. I am assuming these are Marine’s from Pickle Meadows Mountain Warfare Center. But the Naval Air Station in Fallon is not too far away as the helicopter flies.
You can also make a full day trip and take the back road to Aurora and Bodie.

What a neat place to spend some time. Glad they restored the building. An extra bonus seeing the helicopter!
