Let’s get Dirty

May 5, 2022 Leave a Comment

I hope I’m not the only one who cleans my Jeep before getting dirty. I wish I were as good at cleaning it after a trip.

Clean… for now

Tomorrow I am heading out with one of my favorite couples, Mary and Justin. We will be Jeeping up Jumbo Grade and visiting petroglyphs, and historic station stops. They have the same Jeep model, and Justin is a great off-road driver; I always like to follow in his tracks and watch how he navigates obstacles.
Saturday, I am taking a couple to Pine Grove for the tour I donated to charity. I have one more tour in a few weeks.
For Mother’s Day, I tried to talk the family into a trip, but no one wanted to do anything. So if the weather holds, I might head out for a bit and find something fun to explore.

Happy birthday, Mom!

I took my mom to the Pink House for her birthday lunch.

The Reese-Johnson-Virgin House, more commonly known as “The Pink House,” was one of Genoa’s first residences and was built in 1855. As one of the oldest surviving buildings in Nevada, In 1870, it was moved by oxen to the current location. Meetings held there established Genoa as the first county seat. The house served many roles over time.

I always let the staff pick the meats and cheeses for my custom charcuterie tray. I told them I would eat anything but brains, eyeballs, and durian fruit (I had it once, it was disgusting, and the taste never disappeared). They always have fun choices; this time, my favorite was a smoky blue cheese.

Honey Badger repairs and improvements

Thank you, Steve and Jeff, for repairing the damage from my run-up Pevine. We thought a bolt was missing from the bumper, but it sheared off when I was yanked out. The extraction hook also snapped in half. The bumper is repaired and back in place.

Steve added a second set of D rings, which mount right to the frame. They can support more weight and are at a better angle. In addition, they can be used as a lift point for the hi-lift jack.

All better!

Technically, Honey Badger could hang from 1 D-ring, not that I’ll test that theory.

“The Antichrist” (The Gods must be crazy)

The great camera debate

I have been debating which lens is best for my everyday use. It has been a process including buying and returning cameras. Thank you, everyone, for all your input. Today I compared my lenses, and the one I have been using is the best. I want to upgrade my primary camera later, but I will stick with what I have now. If I decide to go mirrorless, it would require new lenses or an adapter.

Dogs have masters; cats have servants

Miss Edel was barking, and I couldn’t figure out why. She was telling me her sister, Eris, wanted to come inside. Harra, the other cat, led me around the house to do her bidding. Both cats were dumped at the ranch; they were the few that made their way to our home. Usually, they are hit on the road or attacked by predators. Eris and Harra are the lucky two and now live in the lap of luxury.
