Delphi, Nevada

Delphi was a small town located between Hudson and Ludwig. It was situated on the Nevada Copper Belt Railroad line.

The Nevada Copper Belt Railroad was built in 1911. It connected the Nevada-Douglas Copper Company mine in Ludwig with the Carson and Colorado Railway at Wabuska, Nevada. The line then extended from Wabuska to the Thompson Smelter.

Starting in 1911, the Nevada Copper Belt Railroad transported 1,000 tons of copper ore per day to the smelter. On the return trip the railway carried supplies to the towns of Ludwig, Delphi and Hudson. In 1925 the railroad went into default but it continued to operate until 1929 when the Thompson Smelter was closed. The rail line from Hudson to Ludwig, which passed through Delphi, operated with passenger service until 1945.

Today there is little information about Delphi’s existence. It location is indicated on a few maps. The road from Hudson to Ludwig is named Delphi Road and the atlas shows a Delphi spring.

The former town site of Delphi lays between the Artesia Lake and the Singatse Range. My guess would be Delphi was a small settlement that served local ranches and the few smaller mines in the Singatse’s.
