The Nevada Insane Asylum opened in 1881 to care for Nevadans who were unable to care for themselves. Funding and staffing issues plagued the hospital, causing patients to be lost in the system. I was fortunate to escape the heat this week. Tuesday, I took out my friend Mike for his birthday. We hiked to Snowshoe Thompson's cave and followed the Carson River Route of the emigrant trail.
