In 1859 Thomas Wheeler built a stage stop on the road from Carson City to Aurora. Many mile houses were named after their location on the road or in relationship to other stations. Discovered in 1866, Pine Grove is one of the first settlements in the area. The town grew to 600 residents and was a supply center for the region.
