In 1847 while traveling to Salt Lake City, Sam Brannan left supplies near a spring at the mouth of the Carson River Canyon. The location was situated on the Carson River Route of the emigrant trail where the mountainous road opened into the Carson Valley. Desert Station is situated between Buckland's and Carson Sink Pony Express Stations. It has also been referred to as Coates Well and Brooklyn. Desert Station was one of the original Pony Express Stations. Personal diaries from travelers in 1860's mention Desert Station had good grass and water. I photographed Rudy last year at the Fish Springs Wild Horse Preserve. My friend, awesome photographer and wild horse expert Cheryl took me out for a morning on the range. The horses and especially the babies are so fun to watch! People go out daily in the spring to look for new babies. The prize for finding a new foal is naming rights. ... VIEW POST

Travel Update: Full Post to Follow This is a picture of a picture that didn't hold up well over 18 years. Hubby and I visited Gold Point for several days on a ghost town vacation.
