The remains of Jordan lie to the west of Mono Lake at the base of Conway Summit. The Jordan Mining District was established in 1879. The Goleta Consolidated Mining Company constructed a 40 stamp mill and smelter at the base of Copper Mountain and soon a town stood around the mill. Munckton Trip
Another fun weekend in The Easteen Sierras. Munckton with the Dunburg Mill, Jordan and a brief stop at Dog Town. The views were spectacular but very little was left of the ruins. The stories are amazing though. Jordan was a power station town hit by an avalanche in 1911, the same year as the Mono Mill avalanches. Eight people lost their lives but a woman and her dog ... Pony Meadows Mill & “Como Bert’s Cabin”, Nevada
Pony Meadows lies several miles to the northeast of Como at the base of Rawe Peak. Fort Churchill soldiers utilized the meadows for summer grazing from 1860 to 1869. Some say this is how Pony Meadows earned its name. Others claim it was named after "Pony" Crownshield. "Pony" is no longer a colt. He is fully the allotted three score years and ten. Winch is On
