Mina Trip June 2026

August 3, 2026 Leave a Comment

Garnet/Gunmetal Mine

Historic tungsten mines in the Pilot Mountains (east of Mina). The Gunmetal was an early producer with a small mill in the 1920s; both the Garnet and Gunmetal deposits are part of the modern Pilot Mountain tungsten project.

Dunham Mill

Former mill site (Dunham Mill Site) in Mineral County, located on the lower slopes related to the Pilot Mountain area. It has been referenced in connection with water rights and mill-site claims for modern tungsten exploration.

Stewart Spring

natural spring in Mineral County, shown on USGS topographic maps in the broader Mina / Pilot Mountains vicinity (Stewart Spring quadrangle). It served as a water source in the desert mining landscape.

Eddyville

Short-lived 1930s mining camp/ghost town in the Pilot Mining District (east of Mina, near Summit Springs). It formed around gold discoveries (notably the Stormland / Storm Cloud group) amid earlier cinnabar (mercury), tungsten, and other activity; remains are limited.

Mt. Diablo Mill/Sodaville

Sodaville (originally Soda Springs) was a railroad station and freight hub on the Carson & Colorado line, a few miles south of Mina. The Mt. Diablo Mill (or Mount Diablo Reduction Works) processed ore from the Mt. Diablo mine at Candelaria and later supported other operations, including tungsten. The site is now largely abandoned.

Kindaid

Former railroad siding and water stop on the Carson & Colorado Railroad (also spelled Kincaid / Kinkead), established in 1882. A 50-ton cyanide mill was built there in the 1910s–1920s for the Fitting district; the site later saw limited reuse and is now mostly private property near US-95.

A note from Tami

This trip report was compiled with the help of AI, drawing from my own website content (NVTami.com), notes, and reliable public sources. I’m still recovering from cancer treatment and working to catch up on writing and posting after a challenging period. These summaries are intended to share the journeys quickly so I can get back to hands-on research, photography, and writing new in-depth articles. Thank you for your understanding and continued support — I’m looking forward to getting back in full swing soon!
