Christmas 2022

December 26, 2022 Leave a Comment

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Two Bitches Bourbon from Eureka

My sister and her family are visiting from Idaho. We have eaten our way through the holidays. For four days, I have pretty much cooked or cleaned.

Edel loved all the meal prep. She stationed herself at my feet for goodies that might drop. Note the drool at her feet.

“Not a party”

My little one didn’t want a party but had friends over. She rarely asked for anything but wanted hot chocolate, a charcuterie tray, and chocolate-dipped strawberries. The girls had more fun playing on the ranch than decorating cookies or making hot chocolate bombs.

German Christmas Eve Dinner

In German culture, the big dinner is on Christmas Eve. This worked well as my family celebrates Christmas day with breakfast and dinner. Hubby’s family is from German, so we never had to split holidays.

German Christmas dinner

I might start calling Christmas Eve German dinner “Pain in the Arse Dinner,” it is delicious but a pain to make. Rouladen (beef roll with bacon and pickle), bratwurst, bockwurst, rotkohl (red cabbage and apples), spaetzle, and mustard sampler.

Christmas Dinner

Christmas dinner was prime rib, cheesy potatoes and asparagus. Simple but delicious!

See the ghost town connection?

Christmas Morning: The weirdest wife ever

Christmas morning was fun but chaotic, with nine people. My little one and youngest nephew handed out gifts. My mom made cinnamon rolls and a Christmas tea ring with apples, walnuts, and cranberries. I made our traditional ham and cheese bake. We had a hot chocolate bar for the kids and a mimosa and coffee bar for the adults.

I received gifts from Honey Badger, Edel, and Dela, our last chicken.

Hubby said I was the weirdest wife ever. My Amazon wish list contained a tool roll, soft shackles, and kinetic recovery rope. Also listed was an Inde Flate, which allows you to air down or up all tires simultaneously.

My sister and I enjoyed a nice walk between Genoa and Walley’s Hot Springs between the festivities.

Chollar Mine

The day after Christmas, I took my sister’s family to tour the Chollar Mine in Virginia City. We had a few other places to visit, but the weather wasn’t cooperating. I have a full article on the Chollar Mine history and tours.

Virginia City

My sister and her family toured Mackay Mansion, and I grabbed a few pictures on the way home.
