Kirkwood Inn and Saloon was built in 1864 by Zachary Kirkwood. It is situated on the border of 2 counties. History says that during prohibition, Kirkwood had a bar on wheels so it could be moved from county to county to avoid law enforcement. This was also handy to avoid taxes and discovery of the slot machine hidden in the kitchen.

After 156 years, Kirkwood is still a popular restaurant and hang- out spot. In the summer they have a variety of events.
