Alkali Springs has been a popular resting place for visitors for over one hundred years. In the early 1900s, it was a trendy resort, restaurant, and dance hall. In the 1940s, soldiers from nearby Tonopah Army Airfield got "rowdy" at the resort, taking a much-needed break during WWII. Chinese Grave: Mineral County, Nevada
Only an astute observer will notice a lone wooden headstone along Highway 95 between Hawthorne and Luning. The wood fades into the Nevada desert, making it difficult to locate. On the backside of the marker, facing away from the highway, is engraved with Chinese characters, "Grave of (unknown) from Poon Yup." Sutro and Carson River Mill Trip
The weekend didn't work out exactly as planned. It turned out even better, instead of one amazing day I had two. Saturday we explored the Carson River Mills, third trip this year. We always find something new, this time the tussles of the V&T Railroad. The best part was I got to play chauffer to Stan Paher, Godfather of Nevada ghost towns! Nivloc, Nevada
Ghost-towning As soon as I heard of Nivloc, the strangely-named town, I went to my library, then Google to start my search.
