Markleeville Cave, California: Winter Shelter, Ceremonial Site and Speakeasy

November 12, 2020 2 Comments

Markleeville Cave lies off Highway 89 between Markleeville and Silver Mountain City. I have driven past for years and never noticed the cave just off the road. I was on the way home from the ghost towns of Monitor when I noticed an old road leading into the woods. Road construction was difficult and costly and historic roads always had a purpose. Being me, I had to investigate. Edel ... VIEW POST

Life and Loss Update

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was busy but lots of fun. Hiking in Desolation Wilderness. No bear sightings, but I explored a Gold Rush era resort, amazing scenery and beautiful waterfalls. Fall in the Sierras is all about contrast. Super cold mornings and warm days. I started the day in a down vest, gloves and wished I had brought a hat. By lunch I was sitting in the sun in a ... VIEW POST

Maybe you will run into "The Famous Washoe Seeress" at Bower's Mansion. Or spirits of the 11 miners entombed in the Yellow Jacket Mine. If you visit the Dake house, don't ask if the rose painting is for sale, the spirits won't take kindly to your ... VIEW POST
