Duluth
The last week has been pretty crazy. I left to take my little one to camp in Duluth, Minnesota, on Monday. It ended up a 48-hour turn and burn, taking her and coming home the next day.
I couldn’t have asked for better connections or flights, but it was a long few days. We arrived at midnight in Duluth to find they had almost no transportation. It was a stressful and long hour, but we shared one taxi with a man who spoke no English. We dropped him in an abandoned area with people living on the street.
I’ll admit, I was pretty happy to make it to our hotel, which had a welcoming firepit.
The following day after dropping my little one back at the airport, I had a few hours to kill. So I took another sought-after taxi and went to Canal Park. I had hoped to take the train along the shore of Lake Superior, but it was so foggy you couldn’t see anything.
Locals convinced me to partake in the official pastime of Duluth, visiting a distillery. I spent the afternoon walking around the edge of Lake Superior, which reminded me of the ocean.
Built in 1905, it was converted into a lift bridge in 1929-1930. The only other one in the country was the Sky Ride in Chicago.
Damn
Friday, I went to clean Honey Badger, oh yeah, and repair the hole in her tire. I ran by the gas station and car wash when I received an alert that there was a fire in Genoa. I thought it was nothing, then looked up. Darn it. Thankfully the amazing fire crews were on top of things and got the fire out before spreading too far.
Aurora and Unexpected Jeep Rally
I received a message from my friend Gregg that he and friends Mark and Allison were at Big Horn Campground and were going to explore in their RZRs. I told them I would hurry to meet them. Leave it to me; I turned off at Sweetwater, to run into 50 Jeeps! I tried to get around, but there wasn’t space. They were getting ready to head out, and they invited me to join in the usual Jeep fashion.
I followed them to the campground where I met my friends.
We had planned on heading to Bodie, but as the Jeep group was headed there, we changed our plans to Aurora. We were in such a hurry to beat the slower Jeeps, we ran out and I forgot my cell phone. I think I got some great shots on my camera of Aurora and Mono Lake.
Father’s Day
While Hubby relaxed on Father’s Day, I went to wash and clean out HB. The blowout was impressive, with dust flying everywhere.
Surprise trip
Nevada Expeditions messaged late Sunday wanting to know what I was doing Monday. Neither of us had plans, we decided to head out. I’m getting ready to head out, and have no idea where the day may take us!
