Thank you, everyone, for your input and comments over the last week. I have been trying to catch up on responses, but my little one has been sick.
Nevada’s Top Ten Ghost Towns has been a big hit, and I have more lists on the drawing board.
I am proud to announce I am working with The Sutro Tunnel Restoration Project to document the Sutro Tunnel and ghost town. Sutro is a one-of-a-kind piece of Nevada history closed to visitors for decades. Next Wednesday, I will be sharing information on the project and my history with Sutro.
Honey Badger and I revisited Sutro Monday. The fantastic volunteers have done a tremendous amount of work cleaning up the grounds and restoring the structures.
I had an extra special treat at Sutro; I got to go into the Sutro Tunnel! The tunnel is gated and locked, but I had special permission to go a few feet into the tunnel. Unfortunately, the tunnel collapsed forty feet from the portal. Stay tuned because very soon, we should have more information on the tunnel’s condition and what it will take to restore a portion so visitors can safely go into the 150-year-old Sutro Tunnel.
Sutro Tours
Sutro is open by tour only. Friends of Sutro hosts group tours throughout the year. Better yet, purchase a membership that includes tour tickets. All proceeds are used to restore and preserve Sutro. Contact Sutro Tunnel Site Restoration Project at (775) 900-0507, or email program director Chris Pattison at chris@thesutrotunnel.org.
