After weeks being cooped up with smoke from the Tamarack and Caldor fires I was getting antsy to explore. I think my family was more than happy to have me get out for a while before I drove them crazy, or worse yet, made them do laundry.
Hubby asked what I wanted to do for fun. If I had told him I wanted to go Labor Day shopping he would have been shocked. He never blinked an eye when I told him I wanted to visit a 158 year old cemetery.
The Markleeville, CA Pioneer Cemetery was established in 1863. A handful of grave markers remain but most are marked with “Unknown Alpine County Pioneer”.
The fire burnt up to the edge of the cemetery. Thank you firefighters and emergency responders for saving Markleeville.
