Thanks for visiting my corner of the world-wide web!
Hi, I’m Tami, and I have been exploring ghost towns, mining camps and back roads for 30 years. If you love seeing and learning about some of the more unusual ghost towns and locations in Nevada and beyond, you came to the right place!
My goal is to photograph and document the history of Nevada’s many ghost towns. Come join me, my dog, family and friends on our explorations!
WHAT ON EARTH IS GOUGE EYE? A medieval torture technique? Something you do when you are itching your eye and sneeze? Does it happen when your friend’s kids run through the house with sticks? All of these may be accurate but, no—Gouge Eye is also a little known Mining Camp in Nevada and was one of my earlier explorations in Northern Nevada. At this date I don’t remember where I first learned of Gouge Eye. It isn’t mentioned in my reference book and there are very few mentions of it online. But after hearing the unusual name I decided we had to visit! Had we not been searching we would have passed without ever knowing that people once lived and worked there. A few low-lying rock walls were all that marked the spot of the former mining camp. After we explored the area, Hubby said, “If one of us ever starts a blog, we have to name it ‘The Gouge Eye Chronicle’!”
