Unfortunately, this weekend my travel companions had to cancel their trip to Death Valley, leaving me to debate what to do.
First, I thought of seeing what Nevada Expeditions was doing and spending a few days ghost-towning based in Fallon. Then I looked at the weather report in Death Valley, sunny and 70… decision made.
It will be much warmer than the last trip!
Sometimes things work out. For example, my mom had her plans change, and a free weekend, so we will take a mom and daughter ghost towns trip.
I was re-planning the trip as we will be taking my SUV and only have one vehicle. Also, my mom is one of my best friends, and if I took her wheeling four days in Honey Badger, she would never speak to me again. So I debated what was reasonable to visit and who should appear on my phone, calling to wish me a happy New Year… none other than Stan Paher.
Stan told me to grab his atlas and we started planning great day trips that aren’t too isolated or difficult. Stan’s memory is fantastic, I grabbed my Ghost Towns and Mining Camps of Nevada Atlas, and he told me what page to look at. I have a little work to do, but I have a good plan, including favorite and new sites.
Talk about good timing!
As I write this, I notice I missed a second call from Stan. He called and left me a message that he ran into Troy, from Red Rock, and that my “Fame has spread from Sea to Shining Sea.” Awesome start to the year.
