Joseph Currie started a ranch here in 1885. The location was previously Bellinger’s Spring, a stage stop on the road between Toano and Cherry Creek. Currie became a stop on the Northern Nevada Railway. It was midway between Ely and Cobre, where the line connected with the Southern Pacific mainline. From 1906 to 1941, almost 5 million passengers rode the rails through Currie.

The railroad shut down on June 20, 1983, the day after the McGill Smelter.

We are heading home a day early after our meetings. I’m not feeling well, and Hubby wants to get me home. We aren’t sure how, but I ended up with cellulitis on my upper arm. My skin looks like I was exposed to a nuclear reaction, and the heat radiating off it could power a small town. I got a red ant or bug bite at the Pine Grove cleanup, but it is on the other hand. I started antibiotics, but it will take some time to recover. At least I got a few stops along the way!
