My friend Gregg and I each had to cancel trips due to mechanical issues. He texted and asked if I wanted to go out and play and look for fall colors. We talked about talking his Turbo RZR but the places we wanted to visit likely had snow this week.
We decided to take a Sunday drive instead in his new convertible Camero, which is tons of fun! As the weather was great at lower levels, we put the top down and headed to Tahoe. The leaves are strange this year. Many haven’t turned, and a lot have already fallen or turned black. Still it was a beautiful and fun day.
Camp Richardson
Our first stop was Camp Richardson for lunch at the Grove, formerly the Beacon. Our lunch was amazing! Yes, they still have rum runners, but they are now available in several flavors. We started with calamari, the most tender I have had, even in Hawaii. I have been super good with what I eat and drink since Labor Day and decided to splurge. I am not a chicken fan, but I couldn’t resist the fried chicken, spicy chili sauce and ricotta beignets. (No worries, I’m back on track tonight with my last garden fresh zucchini lasagna).
We wandered the historic estates at Tallac historic sites. It is always a fun visit, but the leaves haven’t changed yet.
Hope Valley
I knew a few spots around Hope Valley where the leaves never disappoint.
