Busy weekend

September 8, 2024 Leave a Comment

It wasn’t fun, but I got a lot done this weekend.

Bill Zirn’s grave

At the Genoa Cemetery, I had an extra set of flowers, so I marked Bill Zirn’s grave. The headstone was cut from the boulder that ended Bill’s life in 1896. You can read about Zirnville & the Deadly Headstone if you missed the story.

Camping gear is scorpion-free, cleaned and stored till next season. My next trip is to Inyo County, which is based in a hotel. Woohoo, hot showers!

Honey Badger is cleaned, and I’m looking forward to taking out Ghost Town newbies this week. HB is still held together with zip ties and looks surprised.😲

The house is almost decorated for fall, the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Still a little bit to go.

We had some drama on the ranch. A tenant found a momma and baby lamb a bear attacked. We found other evidence that he tried to break in and get our animals. Thankfully Della & The Boys are safe. The goats are spooked, not wanting to go where the bear tried to break in. Della the chicken couldn’t seem to care less.

Our last boy, a mountain lion, killed the others.

We have a pack of coyotes. We get single coyotes, which don’t worry us much, but this pack is 7! They are large, healthy and not afraid of people. One evening, 6’5″ hubby went outside and they growled at him! We have never seen a pack on the ranch or one that is aggressive to people.

I did a ton of canning and cooking from the garden.

Pesto and prosciutto-wrapped chicken thigh with garden veggies
Bourbon blackberry jalapeno jam (the winner by far!)
Bacon maple jalapeno jam

Zucchini pickles and Yellow squash relish (amazing in southern-style deviled eggs!)

Tons of pesto and Pesto and prosciutto-wrapped chicken thigh with garden veggies. Zucchini lasagna is my little ones’ favorite.

A new radio episode, Walley’s Hot Springs and the Mob is coming soon! You can get a preview at Walley’s Hot Springs & Baby Face Nelson.
