Wednesday, I woke to pogonip, frozen fog. I love pogonip; it makes the entire world look white and surreal. It reminds me of Hoth, the frozen planet in Star Wars.
The morning started socked in with fog at the ranch. So instead of sitting down at my desk to work, I put on fleece-lined pants and a shirt, added three more layers, and headed out to explore the winter wonderland.
Once I left the valley’s center, the pogonip ended, but the skies opened to a beautiful blue-bird morning. I decided to head to Genoa to photograph Nevada’s oldest settlement.
Snowshoe Thompson is known as the “Viking of the Sierras” and the father of skiing in the Sierras.
Behind Genoa Bar & Saloon, someone built two cute little snowmen on a table.
Back on the ranch, the pogonip lasted half the day.
