A Dichotomous Weekend

October 30, 2022 2 Comments

I’m impressed I remember that word! Dichotomous: a contrast between two things. I had to look it up to verify I remembered correctly;)

I spent this weekend on two very different, dichotomous activities: firearms training and touring this historic Nevada state prison. Throw in fantastic food, and it was an interesting weekend mix.

What is scary is me before I gave up straightening my natural curls

Most of the weekend was dedicated to The Kid’s birthday. He decided he was “too old for a party” and chose to have a nice dinner out and a family dinner for his birthday. The final year he had a party he didn’t want a traditional Halloween party. So, I researched and created a Haunted Carson Valley Tour. I had an entire bacon-themed menu: Bacon crescent roll pinwheels, bacon burgers, bacon and green beans, and cake with candied bacon.

Daniel’s

For the past two years, The Kid has chosen Daniels in Genoa. I couldn’t be happier; as always, it was terrific.

Black Manhattan and pr-appetizer treat

We don’t often eat out; I cook better, healthier, and less expensive than most restaurants. In the week, I have made seared scallops with butternut and parmesan risotto, smothered mushroom pork chops with smashed cauliflower, parmesan-crusted salmon, and tonight roasted butternut squash soup. For my family, eating out and cable TV is a big treat, so we go all out.

Daniel’s was amazing as always. The Kid chooses seared foie gras and shrimp risotto as appetizers. He ordered venison for dinner. I will try something different someday, but I love their duck breast and apples. Hubby rounded out our meals with lamb skank.

The dessert was creme Brulee and poached pear. Yummy!

I peeked over the fence of the Pink House; they had a fantastic grand opening! I look forward to seeing the changes the new owners made.

Nevada State Prison

After our prison tour, I have so much to process; Byron was an excellent education guide. We learned about Nevada’s history from its founding until its final execution in 2006.

The most challenging part of the tour was the death chamber; I did not know Nevada was the first use of a gas chamber and death by lethal injection.

Firearm Training

Woking on isosceles stance

I don’t have a lot of pictures, but I went through 300-plus rounds this weekend. I put 200 through the Glocks. On the first day, the Glock 19 was great. The issue was the excessively light loads – so light the Glock wouldn’t cycle. The second day we used new rounds, and within a few magazines, I was developing “Glock knuckle.” Finally, I changed out for the Glock 17 and had a better time.
Hubby decided to try the CZ. My response was it felt like it fell into my hand. I am working on keeping my thumb on the safety, which is different than a Glock.

The ladies wondering what i am doing

Guess what I’m doing Sunday night?

Yup! Getting ready to head out for a ghost town trip! Thank you, Steve the Magnificent, for installing my new shelf to help with organization.
