What a wonderful but exhausting weekend. It was worth all the work to see friends we have missed the last few years.
As we decided to have it only a few weeks ago, I have been scrambling to prepare. This year we kept it smaller; we only had around 60 people. Usually, it is over 100!
As there have been increased Covid cases, I changed things up, keeping everything outside. I used the old dairy sinks for the Bier Garden.
I was trying to find a place for the dessert bar when I turned around and saw the hot tub; why not have a hot tub dessert bar? It also worked great as a second pretzel and mustard sampler bar when it got too warm on the front porch.
I have always served dinner inside; this year was on the back patio. I simplified the menu and preparation. Brats, red cabbage, potato salad, kraut, and grapes to pretend dinner is somewhat healthy.
It all worked great, and the weather couldn’t have been better. I am still cleaning up; I hope to finish before the storm later this week.
My mom is the only one I trust more than me to decorate tables. She outdid herself this year. Burlap tablecloths in the back, a block pattern in the front yard, which I missed photographing.
Last night we used the fire pit for the first time this season. I told the family it was BBQ hot dogs and Oktoberfest leftovers, or they could eat Lucky Charms with chocolate milk; I was beyond caring.
Honey Badger is back home, and I am feeling the itch to go exploring. Hmmm, maybe a ghost towns and fall colors trip? Or an article on the best ghost towns to visit in the fall. That is called foreshadowing.
