So, I did a thing this weekend.
We weren’t planning on trading out my daily driver until next year. We talked about trading the Enclave for an SUV that handled easier off-road trips and didn’t get beat up on the ranch. Also, something I can explore in without getting 12 mpg.
When Honey Badger was at the dealership last week, I checked out a 2023 Grand Cherokee Overland. I loved my Enclave, the comfort was amazing, but it was a town SUV. The Overland is almost as comfortable and has great off-road features. My favorite is a 10″ lift with the push of a button. Trade-in value is crazy, so we ended up with less payment and a 100,000-mile warranty.
This weekend I helped coordinate two rescues. Two friends got stuck in the middle of nowhere. It would have taken me till dark to go home, get Honey Badger, and get to them. 775 Off-Road recovery was terrific. They are all volunteers and have done training for groups, like the winch training I did last year. My friends got out and home.
The second rescue so far hasn’t turned out as well. Someone working with the mines around Aurora found this pup. We were trying to get the word out to off-road groups hoping to find the owner. They will take it to scan for a microchip, but we were hoping to find the owner sooner. So if anyone knows the dog, let me know.
I spent the rest of the weekend reading a fantastic book I bought from CC (Concerned Citizen), Pioneers of the Ponderosa. It is the history of Washoe Valley and its role in Comstock. It has stories, information, and even settlements I didn’t know.
Honey Badger goes to Reno today to hopefully find the Gremlin. After that, I have a week and a half to prepare her for my next trip. I hope they get her fixed quickly; if not, I’ll lose a bet to a Taco and have to buy drinks and dinner the first night. We can’t have A Rubicon losing to a Tacoma!

Found your site looking for information on the odd geographic feature North East of Gabbs NV. It looks like a leaf from above. We drove into it on one of our back road runs. Some speculate it is a collapsed caldera. But I have not yet found information on it. Maybe you know?
This weekend we are going to do a run to the Buffalo Valley Cinder Cones near Battle Mountain.
