This weekend is the annual Eagles & Agriculture event. Photographers and wildlife lovers come from all over to enjoy various events, including art shows, classes, and ranch and wildlife tours.
It is calving season, which brings in the bald eagles. While beautiful, eagles are scavenger birds. They wait for the birth then scavenge the placenta. I think of bald eagles as Cinderella and turkey vultures as the “Ugly Step Sisters”.
I will be working at the Eagle & Ranch tour in the morning then hosting tour groups in the afternoon at our ranch. They come to visit our great horned and barn owls; I hope the owls cooperate this year.
Needless to say, my afternoon groups will get a history lesson on the founding of our valley, emigrant trails, and the Pony Express. They will tour our historic barn, outbuildings, and miner’s shack which we think was moved from Virginia City or Bodie.
I am heading up to Virginia City to take a few pictures for my Top 10 Places in Virginia City off C Street. If it works out, I will tour the Chollar mine.
