Byer’s Mine is outside of Austin and close to Stokes Castle.

Thank you Nevada Expeditions for helping me figure out where I took these pictures 14 years ago! I added this to my list to re-visit.

I would love any information you have, this is a site I haven’t gotten to research yet.

The Byers silver mine, located in Nevada, has historical significance in the mining industry. It was one of the many mines that contributed to the mining boom in Nevada in the 19th century. The Byers mine, like other silver mines in the area, played a role in the economic development of the region. However, it’s worth noting that specific details about the Byers silver mine in Nevada may vary depending on the historical period being discussed, as mining operations and landscapes can change over time.
LCDR Charles J. Byers says
My Byers family were the original founders for silver mining near Stokes Castle off the Loneliest Hwy in the U.S.A. Very difficult environment and there are silver veins all throughout this area. Working in mines without respiratory protection led to many health issues for my Grandfather and some of those medical issues passed to me genetically (LRP5) making my bones 8x more dense than average human being. Mining is super dangerous but we were only trying to make a living in the desert of Nevada. r/ LCDR JOe Byers, Owner- Pleasant Valley Energy Consultants of Nevada. http://www.pvenergyllc.us

Thanks for the information. Byers is a mine I haven’t dug into the history. I haven’t heard of LCDR. Mining was, and still is, so dangerous. Too many lives lost.

My ancestors spent many years in the hot blazing sun mining for silver and are considered to be founders of the great “Silver State” of Nevada Si many heath hazards came from their mining efforts and some passed to me with an LRP5 gene mutation.
