Winston (foreground) and Margaret (glaring at me from the background) are our current Great Horned Owls. They are new to our ranch this season. A group of owls is called a parliament so we named them after Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher. We haven’t seen them lately as they have been at the nest with their owlettes.

Last year we had a juvenile male Great Horned Owl who stayed over winter. We named him Flash for the lightening bowls coming off his eyes and his cool Super Hero pose.

Toward the end of the season Flash brought home a girlfriend. We thought they would return to nest this year but they must have found a better location.

Thank you. We are very fortunate to have them on the ranch. But darn it, I wish they didn’t hide the babies so well!
